Greeted by a beautiful weather, the third day of the 24th International Conference started with the celebration of the Holy Eucharist in commemoration of Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem heralding his Paschal Mystery. Palm branches were raised and blessed during the procession by Most Rev. Fr. Renato Mayuba, D.D. The reverend recalled the essence and heart of the Holy Week: God’s great mercy. He then called the hearts of the 7,000+ Youth for Christ to answer the cry of those who need this same mercy – to be bearers of God’s mercy to our families, our classmates or colleagues, and friends.

The announcement of victors for all competitions followed right after the mass. Regions cheered for their representatives while their trophies were handed by Lawrence Quintero, YFC International Coordinator, GJ Ramores, 24th YFC ICon Event Head and Robbie Andres, CFC Provincial Area Director of Ilocos Norte. The winners and their respective events are the following:

STATEMENT SHIRT: Negros Occidental (Jayvee Ignacio)

ADVOCACY PARADE: Western Mindanao

AREA BOOTH: Metro Manila

AIRPLANE BLITZ: Metro Manila

BALLOON STOMPERS: Central Luzon

PATINTERO: Western Visayas

MINUTE TO WIN IT: North Eastern Mindanao

FUTSAL: Western Visayas

BADMINTON MIXED: Southern Tagalog

BADMINTON MEN’S: Metro Manila

BADMINTON WOMEN’S: South Central Mindanao

VOLLEYBALL: Southern Tagalog

BASKETBALL JUNIORS: Manila

BASKETBALL SENIORS: Southern Tagalog

SPOKEN WORD POETRY VIDEO: Canada

MUSIC ICON: Metro Manila

DANCE: South Central Mindanao

COUPLE COORDINATORS GOT TALENT: North Eastern Mindanao

BAND: Central Visayas

Bimbo Yerro, Full Time Pastoral Worker of Cebu, precedented the praisefest that was as warm as the heat of the sun. He highlighted that a Youth for Christ is a missionary and can serve as a stronghold for others just as he/she has God as his/her stronghold. Rooted in the truth that God loved us first, the 7,000+ are reminded that the real solid ground is not found in the three-day conference but wherever the Lord has called us. This is a call for everyone to stand firm in the faith and all together lay down to the loving Father all the hindrances that keep them from fulfilling the mission. During the praisefest, YFCs gathered at the center of the Marcos Stadium and held on to the cross and each other forming chains of people whose core is the cross of Christ – our Solid Rock.

Ilocos Norte has been nothing but hospitable and gracious to the CFC-Youth for Christ community. The 24th YFC International Conference has concluded but these young people will continue to do God’s works with love. Next year, the 7,000+ delegates from the 22 countries that came together will strive to bring more hearts as they gather again for the 25th YFC International Conference in Manila.

On the second day of the 24 th CFC Youth for Christ International Conference, the participants experienced to be loved and gave more through the Holy Spirit poured upon them. JV Monzon, Full-Time Pastoral Worker of Cavite, officially opened the 2nd day as he led everybody to a trailblazing worship. He encouraged those who are present to always acknowledge our loving and victorious God because of his faithfulness to us. Thus, according to him, as God’s children, let us allow ourselves to experience God more than the things we desire.

After this, delegates went to their chosen workshops and Parish Encounter activities in the various venues and churches around Ilocos Norte. There were 12 workshops namely: Speakers, Vocation, Events: Gateway Evangelization, Marketing the Youth Camp, Dance, Mentoring, SFC Crossover, ROCK Appreciation, Music Ministry, Parenting, Kristogram and Bible Study: PFO. Through these workshops, they were affirmed of how the ministry can be an avenue to explore one’s skills and talents in order to serve God with all our hearts. Likewise, the 13 host parishes showed that despite the differences between the parish organizations, spreading and sharing God’s solid and faithful love is still possible.

Different delegations showcased their talents like singing, playing instruments, dancing, beatbox and spoken word poetry during the Youth Festival. Also, interactive activities were done to engage and hype up the delegates.

In the afternoon, Holy Eucharist was presided by Most Rev. Marlo Peralta. His homily had three points. First, there is always a deeper and more meaningful happiness- to give more time to others and less for ourselves. Second, echoing Pope Francis’ reminder that we should not be distracted by the things we see on social media because it might distort our sense of reality and truth and lastly, we should remember that if we suffer with Christ, we will share in His glory.

The evening worship was led by Arbi Adona who reminded the participants that no matter how difficult problems may be, the Lord remains faithful to us. In return, we should surrender everything, trust Him and seek His presence with a joyful and thankful heart.

For the session 2, Mel Serrano and his family touched our hearts through being witnesses of God’s greatness. For Mel, each of us is called to be a missionary of our own family because they are God’s gift and expression of love. Being a missionary, problems will always be there along our way but one should always look back on one’s journey with Him. The delegates were then led to an activity where they would write ‘I love you’ and ‘sorry’ letters for their family. In this session, one of the sharers, John Rey Decinan shared his struggles that his family has undergone. Despite all of it, he still continues to trust and believe in God because he knows that He will never give us something we cannot bear with. The second sharer, Jon Viray, considered his family as God’s gift and miracle.

For the last session, Sean Septimo affirmed everybody that we are God’s gift because we are able to feel His love, grace, and presence. He helped the participants realize that things outside the community that might affect our family, CFC- Youth for Christ. Voltz Perez, together with his wife, Francis shared how they felt being blessed despite not having a child. They were trying and longing to have a child but they accepted God’s plan for them- to take care and embrace young people from YFC Cavite Highschool based. This blessing and anointment made them experience God’s wholeness through the community.

Sharer Sarah Hicarte, reminded the participants to be thankful for everything. Sarah was inflicted by a viral infection but this did not prevent her from serving the Lord. As a matter of fact, this became her inspiration to serve other people. For her, the community, CFC- Youth for Christ, helped her to realize she is blessed more than she knows.

To end the day, Justine Pablo recognized our family, YFC, and Jesus Christ as our Solid Grounds. He pointed out that the cross is a reminder for us to commit ourselves to Christ and to partake in his every suffering and victory. Being God’s beloved team, we should always have a faithful and merciful heart to share His solid and unlimited love.

The 24th International Conference (ICON) of CFC – Youth for Christ commenced today, April 7, 2017 and will end on April 9, 2017 at the Marcos Stadium, Laoag, Ilocos Norte where approximately 7,000 gathered to celebrate Solid Ground, this year’s conference theme.

Kuya Lawrence Quintero, YFC International Coordinator, reminded us in his opening remarks that solid ground is not just a place where we can stand on but is something that can be found as we come together for our God.

The creative and sports competitions simultaneously followed in selected venues around the city. Competitions featured ball games such as basketball, volleyball, futsal and badminton while creative competition showcased band, dance, chorale, Couple Coordinators’ Got Talent, and spoken word poetry. As always, these competitions helped YFCs execute their competitive spirit while maintaining the vibe of camaraderie and sportsmanship.

In the afternoon, delegates rallied the YFC advocacies to declare their convictions called Advocacy Parade. Among these advocacies are RevUP, A+, 100% Free and G-Project.

YFCs also had the chance to celebrate the Holy Eucharist with Most Rev. Leopoldo Jaucian, S.V.D., D.D. Bishop of the Diocese of Bangued. In his homily, we were reminded of the impact and importance of the Eucharist in one’s life when facing day-to-day challenges.

Brother Jun-G Bargayo Jr., session 1 speaker, reminded us that God’s never-ending love is our solid ground. With this unshakeable and unbreakable ground, we are continuously called to discover how blessed we are to be loved by Him. He had a sharer, Kuya Tj Rivera, whose remarkable touched TeamYFC when he admitted that he had fallen into sort of vices gave him happiness. This resulted to a lot of unfavorable consequences in his life. In his struggle, he was never alone because God remained faithful and generous in giving him unlimited chances.
God manifests Himself through every story we hear and every experience we encounter to remind and enable us to stand firm in our faith. May we always remember that Christ is our solid ground, on which our faith will establish its foundation.

This is what Social Actions, a three-day pre-YFC ICON event aims to do. To give back. To spread love. To serve and to pay forward.

This year’s Social Actions will be held on April 4-6, 2017 at Laoag, Ilocos Norte. Through the different activities such as 100% Free in Barangays, tutorials, Coastal clean up, hospital and prison visits, truly it will forever be a fitting experience to serve and give back to the community of Ilocos Norte.

The 23rd YFC International Conference had started a breakthrough; an activity that lets its participants beyond the four corners of the community walls. It had gave its attendees to be fully integrated with the parishes. The whole-day activity is called the Parish Encounter. The event was held in the different parishes around the province of Bohol.

To hype-up the attendees, the hosts had started a game in which colored papers are randomly distributed and every member writes a question, no matter how random it is. The game’s aim is to let them answer that question and to be known to each other, gaining new friends.

As Catholics, the celebration of the Holy Mass is never forgotten. As unique as they may be, they are united in giving thanks to the Lord.

This encounter aims to build camaraderie and partnership between our YFC community and the parishes’ youth ministry, benefitting both parties in a unique yet mutually beneficial. The session that were led by the parish priest of each venue focuses on one thing – the Acts of the Apostles.

In order to apply a twist in the community’s effort to put the faith in action, the parish youth ministry had teamed-up with our brothers and sisters to perform random acts of kindness. After the activity, the participants had shared to each other with a heart that is full of love and on what they had experienced during the allotted time.

As the sun sets, our couple coordinators had shone like any star like our guides in the community. Our parents in YFC had been more than willing to learn contemporary music. As expected, the crowd had made so much noise in cheering for their beloved coordinators.

For the second night, the sessionistas had caught the attention of the crowd through playing and singing-along of popular songs. Also, the youth had yelled in happiness when a hugot-themed video was played.

Kuya Er Abringe, CFC UAE Coordinator from the international delegations had talked about prayer. The session is entitled No Matter What. It is centered on the topic of prayer. Nothing can stop us from praying to the Lord, he cited. He had pointed out that we too must tell our concerns to God. He also emphasized Paul’s conversion. As he shared his transformation story, it had totally changed him as a person.

Ate Bunny Enriquez, a fulltime pastoral worker for Metro Manila shared her testimony entitled The Story of Us. It was about her family fighting over numerous things until one day, their neighborhood’s houses were set on fire. As it reaches the vicinity of their houses, the fire stopped. With this, she had never stopped praying and giving thanks to God. What matters is our payer time with the Lord, she emphasized.

Ate Andrelene Veloso for Negros Occidental grew up hating her father for various reasons. Because of these, her mother went into a 50/50 state. Carrying all of those burdens, she herself had become an unruly person. Through this community, she had re-established herself into that person that God wants her to be. As time passed by, she had forgiven her father but in 2015, her father gave up to the fight with Diabetes. As this happened, she had that thoughts of questioning God on why these things had took place. In the end, despite everything, she vowed to be that person that will serve God despite everything.

For the last sharing, Ate Rjane Beltran’s mother had suffered from kidney disease. Thts sharing had been her usual sharing wherever she may be. As her mother lies in bed, she never ceased on praying and singing the song Have Your Way, even though she is not a part of our community. Even though her mother died, she never had these questions for God on why these things occur. Her faith never wavered as she chose to believe in God’s promises. For her, our service is a bed of roses, together with its stems and thorns.

Kuya Gerald Manapsal had led the youth into prayer and had encouraged them to write all of their prayers and put it on a balloon as a symbol of lifting all of them up. As one community of believers, true enough that the Lord will always ne the one that will never fails to listen and answer us.
